It was such a sad and touching story. He was lost because of his love's death and that drove him crazy to create a mericlone of her but his brother didn't want that to happen. He hated him and wanted to see him suffer "for eternity". In the end he died holding her memories so it was a failure for him. He was suffering in his own way and was using his pain as a source of fuel for his anger. It is nice that the guy was able to live in peace in the end and move forward on his own. Happy endings are fake you have to make yourself happy for it to work but even that can be fake. Every person is different.
