Tonari ni, 3 Ban Sen no Campanella, and Vanilla Chocolate Cigarette are my top 3, perfectly showing how a relationship may gradually develop, until you suddenly realize you’re in love. They are each, despite having simple, uncomplicated plots, unique, thanks to the way they are written. Their art is also gorgeous and quite different from the usual, which sets them apart even more from others.
The older I get the more understandable it is to me how scary break ups can be, especially ones that are unexpected. The story follows Kanou fresh and reeling from a break up and how he finds comfort in a student he sometimes sees on his daily commute and how he eventually allows himself again to be vulnerable with someone. I especially love the allegory to trains and a journey found in the manga.
At first glance, Vanilla Chocolate Strawberry might seem like a typical story about an office romance, but it is one that carefully, gently shows how a relationship may develop between two co-workers. I also really like how we see Tsubaki slowly becoming part of a once unfamiliar city. Also, the Confession here is absolutely one of my favorites.
Might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I would still consider this one of the best manhwas out there. The characters have depth, and Sunwoo’s character gives a lot of insight what it’s like being gay, as well as being a teacher, in Korea. I also really like how the relationship between Yuri and Sunwoo, total opposites, has progressed and how they have changed as separate people.
I think the extras at the end are what makes this such an amazing read. The way the characters talk about relationships—each very different but each still very true.
It still amazes me how natural the progression of their relationship is written, that when I think about how different they and their relationship are at the end, I can’t help but be surprised. The second part is angst-filled, more mature, and focuses on Anezaki’s insecurities. I absolutely love how good the author is at characterization, and I just love how authentic the two characters and their conversations feel. (1/2)
Overall, the manga is a great read, and I hope we get more of these two! (2/2)
A very heartwarming manga about how family does not have to be someone you are related to by blood.
The sex positivity in this series is amazing. It also portrays sex work in a way that doesn’t erase possible problems and complications that come with it. I especially like this part because I love Daichi!
Just adorable. I look forward to every chapter that is released, and reading one always makes me so happy. I absolutely adore them!
