The artist who did her portrait also did the former royal couple and seemed to be close to them. It's been heavily implied she's secretly their surviving child. The artist mentioned thinking she was similar and I believe the king saw the resemblance too. Her family had said she'd regret cutting them off and implied there was a big secret regarding her too.
My bet is the aunt somehow saved a baby princess and hid her as her brother's daughter.
