I only just started reading this and I can say with full confidence that the characters are so god damn interesting, and the way the author subverts expectations at some turns, it's just such a breath of fresh air. THIS is how you write morally ambiguous characters baby!!! The backstories behind their motivations, how their actions betray their true desires, my lawd this is some good shit.

Unfortunately, when I came to hype about the story, I also learnt about the hate that's being directed to the author. I personally don't believe the author is doing anything that warrants death threats and unsolicited messages of similar intent. Homophobia? I see a narrative that tries to showcase homophobia of the masses and not the author themselves. Rather ironically, a similar sort of intolerance, herd mentality, and quick judgement/violence that has been portrayed by the antagonists is now being directed to the author by individuals who have not taken the time to fully understand the message of the story.

People will grab on to anything these days in their confused state of what problematic content means, obsessed with proving how they are righteous by "protecting" themselves or others in the form of vile and senseless attacks against creators or people who enjoy said content, who've NEVER exhibited the problematic behaviour they're being accused of. There are plenty of dangers and issues to be aware and protected from, but instead of properly identifying them, as a society we're more focused on being reactionary and susceptible to fear-mongering.Sad.

"subvert expectations" that's the word I have been missing!! The author does it quiet a few times and it's done great. Found myself rooting for certain things to happen and then when it happened I wish it didn't happen after all

I wonder if this is some of form of poor literacy or that we as a society no longer value activities that strike a healthy debate. We have the whole world's wealth on information within our pockets yet we do not take the time to research, understand and form our own deep thoughts. Instead we are so quick to judge and make judgement. Maybe I am the same for generalising society but I truly feel a little sad that we have not progressed much from our witch hunting and lynching days.

Wild how this is still so good after so many years. Also, it's a strange feeling when "the end" is really the end, like no side stories or extras. Kinda refreshing.
