The kid needs some sympathy and less hate. He’s cautious because he doesn’t know what the MC wants from him. Sure the mc is helping him in kindness and pity, but the kid doesn’t know that and it’s probably making him nervous.
The best comparison would be helping a cornered animal. Most aren’t gonna immediately trust you, even if you’re helping it and giving it everything it needs. It takes time to build trust. And right now there’s no trust between the MC and kid.
Please take the time while reading to comprehend the story and not just look at it surface level.

Why are people mad at him, he was just homeless for who knows how long, separated from his mom and probably traumatized. And then taken in by someone who does the same thing as what they did to his family. There’s no clear motivation behind the MCs actions (in the kids eyes).
Would you not also be a little defensive? People always complain saying a plot is unrealistic and then get mad when they are realistic..

I think the ML just has some eye bags because he’s stressed and tired, the artist tried to express that by giving him the eye wrinkle that is usually used to show age. That’s probably why the ML looks a little older. Once he’s feeling better he’ll most likely go back to normal.
