Okay I keep coming back to this manga JUST cause of the ending. I have to disagree with the comment below that it was unnecessary. The author had this vision in her mind at the beginning and honestly if it was some normal happy ending I probably would've forgotten about it but I digress. It's very realistic, people die suddenly even when it should just be a happy ending. When I first read this back in 2016 I HATED the ending as well but now growing up and experiencing loss. I realise you are talking to a person one moment and then the next moment they are gone forever. It's painful and it ends up being something you carry for your whole life as seen by the time skip after Subaru's tragic death but you have to keep on going "living". The what ifs will always be a curse and the melancholy nature of Muras life after Subarus death is perfectly realistic and beautiful.
the "real" ending felt so out of place and unnecessary?? i was so happy for them until chp.13 happened and I feel like it would have ended perfectly with chp.12 alone ;w; I didn't even cry because I was so taken aback by the turn of events that I couldn't feel anything... I will let them live happily together in my mind :( <3
My heart shattered when his wife put "best friends" on the photo of them laughing together! (/TДT)/ .. i wish he told his wife in the future that the man in the photo was the love of his life...

Great story, tragic ending. Still a great story but i am highly dissatisfied. That was the most shocking and unnecessary ending I’ve ever read.
Why do mangakas always think that if they write tragic endings it will make a better impact?! Why? Damn!
WTF??? I didn't read this to get my heart broken!!!
Smh, that story was nice but the ending was sooo disappointing. It felt like it was just tragedy for the shock value. ┑( ̄Д ̄)┍
Popular Taiwanese BL series HIStory 3: Make Our Days Count ( https://mydramalist.com/30568-history3-miracle) seemingly plagiarized Lucky-kun's tragic ending. Unbelievable!
I came.here bcoz of this also. It does look similiar especially for the ending part.
And several parts in the beginning of the story too.
Me too
That ending never fails to make me cry...
