Very long rant~~~

Rant:

So this pissed me off WAY more than it should’ve http://www.mangago.me/read-manga/remnant_kemonohito_omegaverse/uu/remnant_kemonohito_omegaverse-chapter-9

This is a HUGE problem and one of the main reasons websites like these get closed down and why websites, translators, and scanlators get slapped with lawsuits. No one gets caught until someone tells the author or publishing company where they’re reading the illegal distributions of their work ╮(╯▽╰)╭

I myself have uploaded the official English translations of Jazz for Two, Tied up in Twins, and A Guy Like You to MangaGo and have unofficially translated A Guy Like You, Jazz for Two, BJ Alex, Love is an Illusion, and Royal Servant and currently translate Tied Up In Twins, and Voice of Love. Yes when I think of what I’m doing I feel like shit. Which is why I always leave links for anyone who absolutely loved the chapters to go to if they want to support the author.

MangaGo has its blurb; “Read hottest manga online for free”
Lies.
It’s not free, most things here were bought by someone(s) and they put their own neck out there to take full responsibility of breaking international laws to share webtoons so other people who don’t have the money/access/knowledge (webtoons in other languages) to enjoy the webtoon.

All readers, uploaders, translators/scanlators are breaking at least one law and if it’s not licensed by a company in your own country then international law. Readers knowingly read illegal copies and most (not all, I’ve met a fair amount of people who purchase the legal copies but go to other sites for discussion) don’t purchase the legal copies so they’re not only willingly reading illegal content, they’re disrespecting the author by reading illegal distributions without supporting the author.

Uploaders upload the official chapters by the liscensed seller and are therefore illegally distributing content. Translators and scanlators generally purchase their own copies and most times in the native language the author releases it in to translate/scan. But then they share it to others so everyone can enjoy the webtoon. Whether it’s an uploader, solo translator or a scanlation team anything you read by them should never be discussed anywhere else except the platform you read it on. If you want to say something elsewhere (like to the author themselves) then buy the legal copies and only reference content from the legal copies, whether they’re in English or another language doesn’t matter as long as it’s the LEGALLY released webtoon from the licensed seller that the author is with.

I’ve seen so many people on authors blogs, twitter, and Instagram tell them that they’ve read it on Manga(Go) or some other platform and that they’re extremely grateful for their work.

The author translates that to: you read illegally.
That makes anything else you might have said completely irrelevant.
The author doesn’t care if we like their work. They don’t care about our compliments. They don’t want our support. They don’t want to know their livelihood is being distributed illegally.

You might think the authors don’t come into sites like these.
Absolute BS.
They know people are reading/uploading/translating their work illegally, and they are well aware of the vast numbers who do it. Clarju (author of Jazz for Two) personally called out a Spanish scanlation team from tumangaonline and has called out people from MangaGo in twitter; he took a screenshot of what they said, blurred out the name and told people to stop reading on illegal sites. In the replies he called those who’ve purchased the legal copies “I know you are a really good reader. 고마워요.” And when someone said who would dare turn to piracy, Clarju responded with “You're right. The fact that the reality is a little different sometimes makes me tired, but it's okay. Cuz I have readers like you.”. Clarju is just one author but any idea just how many are out there? Doing and saying the exact same things, whether it’s in your language or not?

Now you may also think the companies aren’t the FBI, they won’t come for us readers. True. They go for the people who stuck their necks out for your entertainment. The uploaders, the translators, the scanlators, the website.

It’s why Bakomi shut down, and the people who ran the website are in jail. It’s why Sennscans is facing a lawsuit threat unless they stop translating, then it’s no longer a threat, it’s real. And the same thing happens to a number of websites, translators, and scanlators.

I see people on the authors twitter, Instagram, and blogs all the time talking about MangaGo, other “free” websites, talking in languages that the licensed webtoon isn’t it, saying it’s a shame they can’t buy from lezhin and that they need to wait for blah blah to post it, some tag the authors on such comments, some use the authors hashtags, etc.

My question is; why?

You’re discrediting and disrespecting the author. You’re bringing awareness to a piracy website, uploaders, translators, and scanlators. You’re running the risk of bringing a lawsuit to them. You could be ruining the webtoon for god knows how many people who rely on them. So why?

    Answer is: they are dumb.
They don't use their brain to think twice. And their dumb instinct supposes everything to be as legal as guns in America.
I suppose everybody has people we admire and want them to recognise us as well. But emotions taking over reason often leads to trouble.

What can/should we do about it? I feel so bad for the translators and uploaded who risk themselves so other people can enjoy illegal content

TBH it's really sad but I don't think there is anything we can do about it. Even if the majority of us stay quiet, all it takes is one person to ruin it(as we have seen before with lezhin authors a year ago)

Maybe it's kind of show off for some. I know readers who buy from Lezhin and they just die to see that mangago shuts down. Jealousy can kill and they say they care about authors but actually their main concern is their own pocket and one of the best way is just to make authors go crazy.
