I don't care if this was short, I literally laughed out loud with Finny glomping Sebastian into next week. The man never saw him coming, jeezus.

I have a feeling Phantomhive manor is going to give Mei her first real meal in a long time. And I'm all for giving this good girl some good food.

Strap in, this is a LONG post, and it contains theories, not hard facts. If you disagree with my theories, either leave constructive replies below or ignore this post.

Now, there is the rumor of Yana working on a new anime series, which gives her less time to write and draw new chapters. I’ve not heard any confirmation of this, especially since Yana is a very private person, but if anyone knows for sure, it would be nice to know.

But I have another theory.

In terms of the overarching narrative, there was just a HUGE reveal. Granted, it was over two years ago that the twin was revealed, plus there was a year of backstory chapters, but in terms of rereading the chapters back to back, it’s a lot shorter, and takes place in a quicker time frame than you’d originally think.
The reveal of the twin is HUGE. His arrival alone uprooted OCiel from his life and home, and that was just the beginning. Once his motivations and role in the attack on the manor are revealed and his relationship with his brother is expanded upon, it’s going to throw a huge wrench into OCiel’s contract, I guarantee it. And there is also Undertaker. He’s closer to the Phantomhive family than we think, and his connection with Claudia will also probably be as big a reveal as RCiel was. Both of these things are central to OCiel’s quest for revenge for his family, which means it’s central to his contract with Sebastian.

And since the contract itself is the central focus of the manga, that probably means that a major conflict concerning it would be at, or near, the series climax.

This may mean that Black Butler is beginning to build up its ending. The FINALE.

Before anyone freaks out, I have NO proof of this; it is all THEORY. But think about it: where else could this series go? If RCiel and Undertaker were defeated, who would make a better final foe? OCiel’s family, his own mirror image, and the driving force of his revenge. Him being forced to complete the contract regardless of the new information that’s brought to light. Possibly having to choose between betraying his blood relatives or betraying his butler. It fits the dramatic tension and emotional pinnacle of a series climax; what else could beat it?

However, Black Butler is popular. VERY popular. On top of the three anime seasons we’ve gotten in the last eleven years, we just got a full length movie two years ago and an OVA three years before that. And don’t even get me started on the merch. I’m sure Yana’s publisher wants to keep the story going because of the revenue it brings in. It’s easier than finishing this one in a timely manner and starting a new, original story at an equal or higher level of quality. Because of this, I think that instead of dragging the manga’s story into “jumping the shark” territory, Yana is just releasing shorter chapters. And these chapters, while shorter, are still at the artistic and story quality we’ve come to love and appreciate from Black Butler.
And while it is tedious to read, especially for fans who are reading chapters as they release, I think what’s more tedious is dragging the manga into rehashed story elements, cliched character moments, and lame plots just because the brand makes money.

I have faith in Yana’s storytelling ability. I’m sure she’s trying her best to stay true to her original idea for the manga’s story while also pleasing fans and following notes from her publisher. And it’ll be a lot easier to read in the future, when all the chapters have been released and you’re able to read it all at once.

Again, it’s all theory. I’ve heard no news about “the end of Black Butler”, and there are still plenty of plot threads to tie up and character motivations to explore for a good while. I’m sure at this rate, we’ve got, at the very least, five years of content to read. We’re just at the emotional tip of the iceberg, so to speak, and the seeds of conflict are starting to sprout. It’s gonna be a long ride for us all. It’ll be worth it, one way or another, I’m sure of it.

They usually update by now. Ch 150 came out officially on the 18th, and in the time span of then to the 1st, it comes out here.

Did something happen this month?

So I was desperate enough to watch this translated chapter on YT earlier last month, and it was good. Not amazing, but good.

Then THIS translation comes along like "Bitch we throwin shade like a goddamn umbrella" and it's just perfect. Sebastian's lines especially. Just shivers ╥﹏╥

Translators, if waiting longer means this level of quality, by all means take your time. It's soooo worth it in the end.
